What is a ProStart® Mentor?

Mentors help students make the connection between classroom learning and job performance. Mentors also provide support for student goals, career competence and character development by acting as a teacher, a supervisor, a coach, counselor and a role model.

As a PRLA member, you have the opportunity to create a lasting impact on a student while contributing to the future of Pennsylvania’s foodservice industry as a mentor.

What are the benefits of mentoring?

The benefits are great and the time commitments are few. Benefits of mentoring with the ProStart program include:
  • A flexible program with no set schedule
  • Choose the school where you would like to be a mentor
  • Help develop future industry leaders
  • Create a high-quality labor pool for the future of your business and industry

What are the commitments?

Your commitments are few. Visit your school regularly to build relationships with the students and instructors. Support the team in its preparation for the Pennsylvania ProStart Invitational. Attend at least one school advisory board meeting per year. Assist instructors in coordinating industry speakers and presenters for students.
