Briefly describe your job and responsibilities.

I lead a wonderful team of associates that run the Courtyard Philadelphia South at the Navy Yard. We are a 212-room hotel with 1200 sq. feet of meeting space and the Bistro Bar.

What does a “typical” day at work look like for you?

Well, I have been in this role for 10 years, and I’m not sure what a typical day is other than it is always focused on taking care of the associates who in turn are taking care of the guests. That is one of the things I love…never get bored if things are always changing.

What was your first job in the hospitality industry?

I was a dishwasher at the Capital Restaurant in Inlet New York.

When did you know this industry was right for you?

When I started working in the kitchen at the Capital.

Briefly describe your career path and how you got to where you are today.

From dishwasher, to prep cook, to cook, to manager of the restaurant. From there I crossed over the hotel side, moving from desk clerk to desk supervisor, to Night Manager, then to General Manager.

What is your favorite part of your job?

My two favorite parts are making our guests happy and watching team members grow, learn, and take their careers to the next level.

What is the most challenging part of your job?

Making sure that I balance my work with my personal life. It is a very careful balance of making sure that you are winning on both fronts. Love what you do and love your family.

What advice would you give to students interested in your profession?

If you have the drive and desire, you will take your career where you want it to go. Don’t be afraid to set stretch goals and go for it. If you are coasting in a job when you first arrive, you most likely aren’t pushing yourself enough.

What achievement are you most proud of?

Being a great husband and father. My wife and daughter are so important to me and are what really drive me.

Being the 2024 PRLA Board Chair means the world to me. It truly is humbling that so many people have put their trust in my leadership skills.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I like to spend a lot of time outdoors. These days I spend a lot of time with my camera learning photography. I love to watch eagles, herons, ospreys, etc. on the hunt.

What is your favorite food to make or eat?

Recently it has been all things Vegan…so trying new recipes with changes to take out the animal proteins. Some have been winners, others, well, YUCK!

What’s at the top of your bucket list?

I would love to make a month or two long trip taking the back roads across the country. From the small farm towns to the big cities, there is so much to see and do. I love to watch the sunrise and sunset.
